Silent Film Series at The Hollywood Theatre The General with The Play House & The Love Nest

Join us as we kick off our Fall Silent Film Series at the Hollywood Theatre. Our first offering is the 1926 classic ?The General?. In it, Buster Keaton portrays the passionate engineer Jonnie. When the Civil War begins, he is turned down for service because he?s more valuable as an engineer. His love Annabelle thinks it?s because he is a coward. When Union spies capture his train (?The General?) with Annabelle on board, Jonnie must rescue both of his loves. 107 minutes.

In The Play House (1921) - After waking up from his wacky dream, a theater stage hand inadvertently causes havoc everywhere he works. 18 minutes.

In The Love Nest (1923) - In an attempt to forget his lost sweetheart, Buster takes a long trip at sea where he boards a whaling ship with a strict captain. 20 minutes

Portland Day for American Theatre Society (ATOS) Annual Convention Featuring Donna Parker and Jonas Nordwall

The American Theatre Society (ATOS) annual convention in Seattle is having a Portland Day on July 1st open to the general public, and sponsored by Oregon Chapter American Theatre Organ Society (OCATOS). Featured will be Donna Parker at the Cleveland High School at 2:00 PM, and Jonas Nordwall at First Methodist Church at 4:00 PM. OCATOS is offering a PACKAGE DEAL for both concerts at $30.00. Cleveland High School is located at 3400 SE 26th Ave, (at Powell Blvd), Portland, OR and First United Methodist Church is at 1838 SW Jefferson St, Portland OR Parking is available at both locations: across 26th from the High School, and at First Methodist Church.

Nathan Avakian plays the Portland Rose Festival Hollywood Theatre Young Artist Competition silents on the Beverly Ruth Nelson Memorial Theatre Organ

Part of Rose Festival Week was the Youth Silent Film Festival. There were multiple entries presented on June 6, 8 and 9 for which Nathan Avakian wrote original scores and accompanied the entries on the Virtual Organ in the Hollywood Theatre. The result was four winners which were announced at the Festival evening program on Saturday June 12 at the Theatre. Pictured is Nathan at the console of the organ in the Hollywood Theatre.
