Hollywood organist Dean Lemire will be performing his original score live on the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ.

From the creator of Nosferatu, we are proud to present,  F.W. Murnau’s 1927 masterpiece……SUNRISE – A Song of Two Humans.

Considered by many to be the best film ever made by a Hollywood studio, F.W. Murnau’s SUNRISE represents silent artistry at its peak.

Murnau’s graceful moving camera, expressive lighting, and super-impositions lyrically evoke the inner passion, pain, and romanticism driving the love triangle among a simple country couple and a vampish city woman.

SUNRISE as a whole is wonderfully moving, and remains to this day one of the most visually poetic films to have ever been made.

SUNRISE’s artistic impact can be seen most notably in CITIZEN KANE (1941).

We will also be screening a special rare short subject film as well!

Sydney Morning Herald – “From two points of view, SUNRISE is among the most remarkable films that have ever been flashed on the screen. One is the rich, sensitive beauty of the photography; the other the tragic tenseness of the story.”

London Evening Standard – “The film is electric: overwhelmingly passionate and sexual. –  The film is electric: overwhelmingly passionate and sexual.”

Variety – on the Top 100 Films of All Time

The Cameraman (1928)

Saturday, March 28th, 2026 – 2:00pm

The Hollywood Theatre
4122 North East Sandy Portland, OR 97212

Hollywood organist Dean Lemire will be performing his original score live on the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ.

Buster Keaton at his absolute best!   The Cameraman is a brilliant, laugh-out-loud silent comedy full of jaw-dropping stunts, impeccable visual gags, and Keaton’s legendary deadpan charm.

At the peak of his career, this was the last film “the great stoneface” would ever have complete artistic control over again.

After becoming infatuated with a pretty office worker for MGM Newsreels, Buster trades in his tintype operation for a movie camera and sets out to impress the girl (and MGM) with his work. It’s pure comedy perfection from one of cinema’s greatest.

We will also be screening a rare silent short.

Come and experience this masterpiece the way it was meant to be seen and “heard”…on our giant screen and 30 ton Wurlitzer theatre organ! Only at the Hollywood Theatre!

The General (1926)

The Hollywood Theatre
4122 North East Sandy Portland, OR 97212

Hollywood organist Dean Lemire will be performing his original score on the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ.

****Special 100TH Anniversary Screening of THE GENERAL****

One of the finest and most revered comedies of the silent era….Buster Keaton’s favorite film…the iconic masterpiece of the “Great Stoneface.”

Shot on location in Cottage Grove, Oregon in the summer of 1926, THE GENERAL contains the most expensive stunt ever filmed in the silent era…the iconic shot of a real locomotive crashing off a collapsing bridge and into the ravine below.

More than just a constant stream of great gags, what makes THE GENERAL so extraordinary is that it is superlative on every level: in terms of its humor, suspense, historical reconstruction, character study, visual beauty, and technical precision. One might even argue that it comes as close to flawless perfection as any feature ever made, comic or otherwise.

We will also be screening a rare silent short!
